Introduction
Introducing 'Rare Bears ' at the
'Teddy Bear Breeding Centre' in Rishton, Lancashire.
I am Jean Wolstenholme, the Head Keeper of the Centre. I first began breeding the 'Rare Bears' ten years ago, after buying the first ever issue of the magazine called Teddy Bear Club International.
Since leaving school, way back in 1941, I have always worked with animals of many kinds, and they were also my hobby. It was great to be able to actually get paid for indulging in your hobby! Ten years ago, after buying that magazine, I thought, why not add Bears to the animals I have worked with? This kind of bear is far easier to care for than most other animals after all.
I started with synthetic fur, and I dread to think what people thought of my first poor efforts. Then I found real Mohair, and was hooked, it's so wonderful to work with. Now I also use Alpaca as well as Mo, and of course I still use some Synthetic at times. My Bears are truly unique, as I only ever make one of each, and each one is made entirely by hand, I don't like to use a sewing machine on them, so that also adds to the fact that each one is different. I am making a line called 'Moon Goons' at present, and though they all look similar in shape, their sizes and colours vary. All of my Bears are all the colours of the rainbow, (and many more), and they vary in size from 5 inches up to 12 inches, sometimes I will go to 18 or 20 inches, but I will make other sizes to order. I now have a house (or should that be 'Den') crammed full and bursting at the seams, with my Bears, and they are all for sale.
From time to time I will be adding new pages or pictures as I sell or change the bears, so do please keep a look out won't you. I have recently added a whole hug of Mini Bears, some 'Character Bears' and the amazing little 'MOON GOONS'. You just have to look at them! They are so ugly they're lovable!

I also have a hug of Dean's bears, 'Cottage Collectables' and others, almost all of which are for sale too.
